By DAERISOFT, the minds behind games like A Girl Adrift and Training Hero, comes The Era of Overman: Idle RPG.
Being based on a Korean Webtoon of the same name, The Era of Overman: Idle RPG is what you might call a busy man’s haven. Of course, this is mostly because of the ‘Idle RPG’ part of the game’s name.
With that being said, we’re here today to give you a walkthrough, guide, and multiple tips related to this game that are sure to help you get started on your Overman journey.
Starting Off The Era of Overman: Idle
To start with, as soon as you install and first run the game, you’ll be given the option to either log in using a Google account or to continue playing as a guest.
Naturally, we highly recommend you go for a Google account, as it’s the only way to ensure you don’t end up losing your saved data in the future. Never hurts to be safe rather than sorry, right?
You might also get a pop up saying there are still some game assets you need to download if you want to play the game, though they’ll likely be very small. We’re talking less than 100mb small.
Jumping into the Game
With all the initial formalities, you’ll be instantly thrust into the game with your first character, Kim Lung, automatically punching some enemies in the background.
At the same time, you’ll also go through a short tutorial that will rush through the core mechanics of the game. However, we have to admit, the tutorial could have been a little more in depth, so it’s very likely that you’ll be a little lost despite going through it. Don’t worry, though, because that’s why we’re here.
What you have to know, though, is that the game is an idle RPG. What this means is that although the game has multiple RPG elements that other RPGs like Aether Gazer and Outerplane have, you can progress by simply keeping the application running and not doing anything.
This will be further proven by the fact that while your character will be defeating enemies automatically, you’ll also be earning gold in the meantime to ensure you’re able to make your character stronger.
Understanding the Basics of Combat
The core mechanic of The Era of Overman: Idle RPG is its unique combat. As we mentioned above, your characters automatically attack enemies in front of them, and every time one enemy is defeated, another takes its place to keep the chain going. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know the core mechanics behind combat.
Naturally, the orange bar on the top left of the screen is your character’s health, while the bar on the top right of the screen is the health of the enemy in front of you. Sometimes, enemies will have a smaller blue bar below their health bar, which will represent their shield.
Now, the more hits your character lands on the enemy, the lower their health will be, with the same being applied to your health. However, you might have noticed a red potion icon on the left side of the screen which represents how many potions you have.
Every time your health runs out, you consume one potion to restore your health back to 100%. Don’t worry about running out, though, as there are multiple ways you can get more potions, such as watching a video or using some gems.
Of course, just because your character automatically attacks enemies doesn’t mean there’s nothing at all for you to do. There are a total of three ways you can control the combat.
Enemy Weak Points
The way you can contribute to battles is by tapping the enemy you’re attacking when a red bullseye icon shows up on them. The icon indicated the enemy’s weak spot and only shows up sometimes. However, it does some major increased damage so be sure to keep a lookout.
Fever Attacks
Secondly, when the small bar under your character’s health bar fills up, a purple icon will show up at the left. This is the fever icon, and tapping it causes your characters to attack much faster for a short period of time. Naturally, using a fever attack resets the fever bar.
Special Abilities
Finally, every character also has a unique ability that you can use by tapping on the character’s icon at the bottom left of the screen. Using the ability sets it on cooldown, and you can check if a character’s ability is ready by looking at whether or not the icon is glowing slightly.
We recommend you save your fever and ultimate abilities until you go up against strong bosses to make the most of them.
The Importance Of Attributes
One final combat related mechanic we want to go through is the attributes mechanic. Now, there are three attributes that every character and monster has. These attributes are water, fire, and nature.
It’s basically the same rock paper scissors concept of games like Pokemon. Nature is strong against water but weak against fire, water is strong against fire but weak against nature, and fire is strong against nature but weak against water.
There is a 50% damage bonus for an advantageous attribute, while there’s a 50% damage reduction for a disadvantageous attribute, so ensure your team has all types of attributes covered.
Progress in Multiple Ways
Of course, if the entire game had just been one single character constantly defeating enemies then it wouldn’t have been all that fun. Fortunately, The Era of Overman: Idle RPG gives players two distinct ways they can progress in the game.
Clearing Waves
The first is by progressing in waves. By defeating enough enemies, players will be able to challenge the boss of the wave or stage by tapping the red button at the right of the screen. When the boss is defeated, progress to the next stage where they go up against even more difficult enemies.
How many enemies you have to defeat before the boss spawns depends on how far you are in terms of stages. While at first you only have to defeat 10 enemies to get the option to spawn the boss of the stage, that requirement slowly goes up by 5 as you progress.
Clearing Story Missions
The second way of progressing in this game is by tackling the story mode. By defeating stage bosses, you’ll eventually unlock the story mode. While there won’t be any cinematics or minor enemies you have to fight, every story mode mission features a difficult boss you have to defeat in the given amount of time.
One thing to keep in mind is that you have to face the story mode bosses with the character the game chooses for you. This applies even if you have other characters added to your team.
Additionally, the win condition for story mode bosses isn’t always to defeat the boss. Sometimes, it’s to get the boss’ health down to a specific percentage at which point the mission will be cleared.
What happens if you aren’t able to defeat a boss in time? Well, the entire stage resets. If it was a stage boss then you’ll have to defeat the required number of enemies to spawn the boss again, and if it was a story mode boss then you’ll be given the option to restart the fight.
Building the Ultimate Overman Team
Fortunately, Kang Lim doesn’t have to do everything alone. Players are given two ways to unlock new characters in the game to add to their team. The first way is simply buying them using gems, which is actually not recommended at all because characters don’t come cheap and gems can be used for better things in the game.
Instead, we recommend you unlock new characters the old fashioned way, which is by progressing in the story mode. As a matter of fact, you can unlock every single character in the game by simply progressing in the story, which is definitely a cool thing.
Upgrading Your Character
Along with unlocking new characters, upgrading them to be as strong as possible is also very important. By clicking the ‘upgrade’ icon at the bottom right of the screen, you’ll be able to go to the upgrade menu.
From here, you can select the character you want to upgrade and then either level the character up to increase every stat slightly at once, or select a specific stat to upgrade.
Furthering Strengthening Your Character
Keep in mind that upgrading a character isn’t free, and you’ll find yourself having to use up all the gold you have pretty much every time you open this menu.
When you eventually level up a character to level 50, which is the initial level cap, you’ll get the option to increase that character’s scent level, which basically means to rank that character up.
A character who has had their scent level increased has a higher level cap and an innate ability is also unlocked. Basically, the character gets a huge buff in terms of, well, everything.
In addition to upgrading character stats, there’s also the option to tap the ‘research center’ sub heading to perform special upgrades by using up your gems. These gems include increasing Kang Lim’s attack speed and reducing the summon conditions of bosses.
Acquiring Rare Equipment
If you want to further increase the overall strength of your team, then there’s also the option to use equipment to increase their stats.
By progressing in the game, you’ll get the option to pull equipment by using up gems. This is the game’s gacha system, so people who have played games like Cookie Run: Kingdom and Honkai: Star Rail will know exactly what to expect.
Equipment you get can then be equipped to your whole team to increase a specific stat. Gloves increase power, eyewear increases the critical hit chance, earphones increase the critical hit damage, and body armor increases the overall health of your team.
Additionally, there are also exclusive pieces of equipment that you can unlock to dramatically boost specific characters, but getting them is very difficult. This is because to get an exclusive piece of equipment, you’ll have to combine three high rarity pieces of regular equipment.
Knowing All the Types of Currencies
Although we’ve gone through some of the currencies already, we figured it might be a good idea to go through all of them one more time.
Gold
Starting off, the currency you’ll be using the most is gold. Gold is earned by performing basically any action. Defeating enemies, clearing stages, clearing story missions, you name it. If you want, you can even buy gold using gems.
Gems
Speaking of gems, gems are the premium currency in this game. They are used for things like unlocking new characters quicker, and opening equipment crates.
Although other games make getting their premium currency rather difficult, it’s pretty easy to get a bunch of them in The Era of Overman: Idle RPG. All you have to do is continue progressing and you’ll naturally complete various missions and unlock all types of achievements that reward gems.
Job Coins
Job coins are another type of currency that’s exclusively used to upgrade or unlock part time jobs. Part time jobs are a way to passively make gold, and you’ll earn job coins by simply progressing in the stages.
Equipment Enhancing Stones
Finally, the last currency you need to know is equipment enhancement stone which, as it sounds, is used to upgrade equipment pieces. Getting this specific type of currency is pretty straightforward since it’s like getting gold which you get by simply defeating enemies. With that being said, the rate at which you get this currency is rather slow.
There are a couple more currencies in this game, such as golden pigs and diamond pigs, but they’re all used to purchase other currencies from the store.
Conclusion
With that, you have completed everything you need to know about The Era of Overman: Idle RPG.
Remember, this is an RPG with a very dedicated team of developers behind it, because of which you can expect there to be a bunch of additions added to the game shortly.
Fortunately, because of the idle nature of the game, you should be able to catch up to the other players in no time at all. All you have to do is take advantage of all the information we gave you today.
