Punishing: Gray Raven – March 2024 Tier List

June Reyes

Punishing: Gray Raven is a 3D gacha RPG created by Kuro Games—a relatively new publisher in the mobile gaming scene. This game boasts a high-octane, real-time combat system and a fantastic storyline that will leave you begging for more.

You can also collect Constructs here, which are characters with unique designs and backstories who’ll help you defeat your enemies in the bleak, post-apocalyptic world of Punishing: Gray Raven.

In this guide, you’ll see all the Constructs you can own in the game—ranked according to their general usefulness and individual capabilities.

Note: While some Constructs do perform better than others on a general scale, keep in mind that some lower-tier units can also shine if you put them in their ideal team comp. In short, you should prioritize having a good team comp over having high-tier constructs that don’t synergize well. Always take a Construct’s Class and Main Energy Coefficient into account before putting them on a team!

S-Tier Constructs (Excellent)

Rosetta – Rigor

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Rosetta – Rigor is the best Tank for Physical team comps. She can significantly lower the defense of your enemies, allowing her to perform extremely well at any stage.

She can also fill the Main DPS role just fine against enemies that are weak to her, such as Musashi and Alpha in the Phantom Pain Cage.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Vera
Photo: Kuro Game

Vera – Garnet

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Lightning

Remarks: Vera – Garnet is hands-down the best Tank for Lightning team comps.

Although, it would be more accurate to call her a bruiser because of her ridiculously high AoE damage output combined with her innate toughness as a tank.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Luna
Photo: Kuro Game

Luna – Laurel

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: Luna – Laurel’s DPS puts most Attackers to shame—especially when it comes to pure burst damage.

She’s the number one Attacker for Dark team comps, as she can easily melt high-HP enemies in a few seconds with her kit.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Kamui
Photo: Kuro Game

Kamui – Tenebrion

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: Armed with his insane innate durability and Super Armor, Kamui – Tenebrion takes the trophy for being the best-in-slot as a Dark team comp Tank.

He also has some hefty DPS in his kit, making him a bonafide bruiser as well.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Liv
Photo: Kuro Game

Liv – Empyrea

Class: Amplifier

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: Liv – Empyrea is one of very few Amplifiers in the game (there are only 2 at the moment), and she certainly doesn’t disappoint with her time-stop-heavy kit.

She is the best all-around Support in the game. You can put her in any team comp and watch her carry as a Support almost every single time.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lucia
Photo: Kuro Game

Lucia – Plume

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Ice

Remarks: An Ice team comp is arguably the easiest high-tier team comp to assemble, but it wouldn’t be complete without Lucia – Plume as your Attacker.

She boasts one of the highest multi-target DPS in the game with her kit, and she becomes nigh-unstoppable once you pair her up with Wanshi – Hypnos and Chrome – Glory.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Wanshi
Photo: Kuro Game

Wanshi – Hypnos

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Ice

Remarks: The main reason why Ice team comps are a bit easier to assemble compared to other team comps is Wanshi – Hypnos.

His base rarity is A-Rank, which means he’s much easier to Evolve than other top-tier units. Not to mention he has a very solid kit, making him the best Ice Support out there.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Chrome
Photo: Kuro Game

Chrome – Glory

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Ice

Remarks: Chrome – Glory completes the best Ice trio in the game along with Lucia – Plume and Wanshi – Hypnos.

Not only does he have high durability, but he can also fulfill the Sub-DPS role exceedingly well with his heavy-hitting skills.

Punishing: Gray Raven-A2
Photo: Kuro Game

A2

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical (Nier Collab Unit)

Remarks: A2 is a must-have if you want to build a Nier Collab team comp. Without her, 2B and 9S would lose a significant amount of their functionality.

Evolving her all the way up to SSS and getting her Signature Weapon is highly recommended if you want her to exhibit her full potential.

She’s incredibly versatile—being able to deal great damage, tank heavy hits, and group enemies for an AoE finisher.

A-Tier Constructs (Great)

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lucia
Photo: Kuro Game

Lucia – Crimson Abyss

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Lucia – Crimson Abyss is the go-to Attacker for Physical team comps. She has it all—outrageous burst DPS, great mobility, and a very cool ultimate skill.

Her only drawback is her low durability, which can be a big problem in some high-difficulty game modes.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Liv
Photo: Kuro Game

Liv – Lux

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Lightning

Remarks: Liv – Lux is yet another top-tier Construct who’s very easy to evolve on account of her base rarity being A-Rank.

She’s the essential Support unit for Lightning team comps, as well as a great off-element Support for any other team comp simply because of her absurd healing ability.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Vera
Photo: Kuro Game

Vera – Rozen

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: Vera – Rozen is a very interesting Support unit as not only does she heal pretty well, but she can also display decent amounts of DPS when used correctly.

If you pair her up with Luna – Laurel and Kamui – Tenebrion, you’d rarely struggle in any game mode unless you’re playing with a blindfold on.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Selena
Photo: Kuro Game

Selena – Capriccio

Class: Amplifier

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: She’s one of the only two Amplifiers in the game, and is unsurprisingly also one of the best-in-slot for Dark team comps.

Her kit gives Dark team comps a massive boost in DPS, which makes her a must-have if you have Luna – Laurel as your Dark Attacker.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Karenina
Photo: Kuro Game

Karenina – Ember

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: While Fire team comps haven’t exactly been doing so well in the meta since release, Karenina – Ember is still a great Attacker on her own.

She offers great burst damage and a heavy-hitting ultimate with relatively short downtime. The only thing that holds her back is the lack of top-tier Fire units that synergize perfectly with her.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Nanami
Photo: Kuro Game

Nanami – Starfarer (NEW!)

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: Complete with a nifty multi-hit basic attack, an improved time-stop mechanic, and fantastic utility, Nanami – Starfarer may just be the Fire Tank that Fire team comps have long been waiting for.

She’s a vastly improved version of Nanami – Pulse and can be considered a staple for Fire teams moving forward, especially if you’re planning on staying competitive.

B-Tier Constructs (Good)

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lee
Photo: Kuro Game

Lee – Entropy

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Lee – Entropy is a good substitute Attacker for Lucia – Crimson Abyss in Physical team comps.

While he lacks the burst damage of top-tier Attackers, he has great sustained DPS and will carry you just fine in any game mode if you surround him with a top-tier Physical Tank and Support.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Kamui
Photo: Kuro Game

Kamui – Bastion

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Despite having a base rarity of A-Rank, Kamui – Bastion stands among the best Tanks in the game with his incredible durability and defense debuffs.

His DPS is quite low compared to some of the highest-tier Tanks like Rosetta – Rigor, but he makes up for it by having a fun kit and being a very solid unit in terms of pure survivability.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Liv
Photo: Kuro Game

Liv – Eclipse

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Liv – Eclipse is by far the best B-Rank base unit in the game, and she’s also the most recommended Support for Physical team comps.

Not only can she heal your team really well, but she can also give you a respectable amount of DPS on the side if you build and use her properly.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Bianca
Photo: Kuro Game

Bianca – Veritas

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Lightning

Remarks: Bianca – Veritas is the best Lightning Attacker in the game. She’s also a ranged DPS, which means she’s a bit easier to use and generally more elusive than most top-tier melee units.

The only catch with using her is that she tends to be inconsistent in high-difficulty stages, as she relies heavily on her Core Passive to deal the maximum amount of damage.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Nanami
Photo: Kuro Game

Nanami – Pulse

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: Nanami – Pulse is an amazing Tank that can massively boost the DPS output of Fire team comps, but her being a Fire Tank is also her biggest caveat.

With the current lack of top-tier Fire units that synergize well with her, Nanami – Pulse can’t be considered a top-tier Fire Tank, especially if we compare her to her most recent variant—Nanami – Starfarer.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lee
Photo: Kuro Game

Lee – Palefire

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: Despite Karenina – Ember being leagues ahead of him as a Fire Attacker, Lee – Palefire is a pretty good “budget” choice, with him being an A-Rank base unit and all.

He can shred enemy defenses and proc Super Armor with his kit, making him a very serious threat on the battlefield once you’ve mastered how to use him.

Punishing: Gray Raven-2B
Photo: Kuro Game

2B

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical (Nier Collab Unit)

Remarks: 2B is a complicated Construct to use, as she requires quite a bit of investment to be able to excel. In short, she’s not exactly what I would call a “F2P-friendly” unit.

Evolve her to SSS and pair her up with A2 also at SSS though, and you’ll see her wrecking enemies like there’s no tomorrow. She’s a beast when invested heavily in. Emphasis on the word “heavily”.

Punishing: Gray Raven-9S
Photo: Kuro Game

9S

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical (Nier Collab Unit)

Remarks: Like 2B, 9S also needs some investment to unleash his full potential. He needs his Signature Weapon to be able to do the things he does best—quick heals and swaps.

A full team of Nier Collab units with 9S, 2B, and A2 can potentially crush any stage in the game —provided you have their Signature Weapons and have them at SSS Evolution.

C-Tier Constructs (Decent)

Punishing: Gray Raven-Karenina
Photo: Kuro Game

Karenina – Blast

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Karenina – Blast used to be the go-to Sub-DPS for Physical team comps, but then the inevitable power creep happened. She fell by the wayside in favor of newer, stronger options.

Nevertheless, she’s still an amazing Sub-DPS who can group enemies for a finishing blow, making her a great teammate for Lucia – Crimson Abyss.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Bianca
Photo: Kuro Game

Bianca – Zero

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Bianca – Zero is a decent replacement Physical Attacker for Lucia – Crimson Abyss and Lee – Entropy if you don’t have them just yet.

She is equipped with a high-damage, long-ranged kit, which is a huge bonus if you prefer a playstyle that sees you distancing yourself from enemies more often.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Watanabe
Photo: Kuro Game

Watanabe – Nightblade

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Watanabe – Nightblade has a fun kit that allows him to deal a respectable amount of single-target damage.

Nevertheless, the sheer amount of better options you have for the Physical Attacker slot doesn’t really do Watanabe – Nightblade any favors.

He’s a decent unit, but using him over top-tier Physical Attackers means you’re losing out on a huge chunk of extra performance.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Ayla
Photo: Kuro Game

Ayla – Brilliance

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Ayla – Brilliance’s kit allows her to decrease enemy defense, which makes her a good starting Physical Tank for beginners or casual players.

Unfortunately, there are already quite a few Physical Tanks that do her job much better than her, and using them will give you significantly better results.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Nanami
Photo: Kuro Game

Nanami – Storm

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Nanami – Storm is one of the three B-Rank base units in the game. She is a decent Physical Tank as well as a defense shredder.

In terms of individual performance, she stands right in the middle of the three B-Rank base units. You can use her as a beginner, but she’ll rapidly decline in the later stages of the game.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lucia
Photo: Kuro Game

Lucia – Dawn

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Lightning

Remarks: Lucia – Dawn can be a good backup Lightning Attacker if you don’t have Bianca – Veritas, especially since her kit is mostly centered around synergizing with other Lightning units.

Her DPS output and durability are pretty mid though, and you’d most likely find her hard to use in high-difficulty stages.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Chrome
Photo: Kuro Game

Chrome – Arclight

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Lightning

Remarks: With Vera – Garnet around, Chrome – Arclight’s utility seems to be pretty limited outside of being a decent filler Lightning Tank.

He’s still a pretty good unit to have around though, given that he actually has great survivability and a lightning-based kit that boosts his team’s Lightning DPS.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Watanabe
Photo: Kuro Game

Watanabe – Astral

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: Watanabe – Astral is a surprisingly good Dark Attacker, but the only problem is that he is greatly outshined by Luna – Laurel in almost every aspect.

You can still use him as a backup Dark Attacker if you don’t have Luna – Laurel though, given that he has a kit that allows him to deal a good amount of AoE DPS.

Punishing: Gray Raven-No.21
Photo: Kuro Game

No.21 – XXI

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Dark

Remarks: No.21 – XXI is a fairly balanced unit in that she has pretty bad DPS, but very impressive survivability.

She’ll fit just fine as a Tank in a Dark team comp if you don’t have Kamui – Tenebrion, but don’t expect her to be as effective as he is.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Sophia
Photo: Kuro Game

Sophia – Silverfang

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Fire

Remarks: Sophia – Silverfang suffers the curse of both being a non-top-tier unit in terms of her kit and having Fire as her main energy coefficient.

She’s a decent healer at best, and will only shine if you pair her up with top-tier fire units such as Karenina – Ember and Nanami – Pulse.

D-Tier Constructs (Bad)

Punishing: Gray Raven-Liv
Photo: Kuro Game

Liv – Luminance

Class: Support

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Although Liv – Luminance offers a decent amount of healing and shields as a Support, we still don’t recommend heavily investing in her—especially if you’re F2P.

Not only are most Physical Supporters generally way better at their roles than her, but Liv – Luminance is also terrible at performing in timed game modes like Phantom Pain Cage and War Zone.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Lucia
Photo: Kuro Game

Lucia – Lotus

Class: Attacker

Main Energy Coefficient: Physical

Remarks: Lucia – Lotus suffers from the same drawbacks as Liv – Luminance, as she’s also far from being the best or even the second-best Attacker for her assigned team comp.

She’ll do fine as a stopgap until you get a better Physical Attacker, but it is highly advisable not to use her as your Main DPS if you want to stay competitive.

Punishing: Gray Raven-Changyu
Photo: Kuro Game

Changyu – Qilin

Class: Tank

Main Energy Coefficient: Ice

Remarks: Changyu – Qilin is the black sheep of the Ice units. He’s fine as a filler Tank, but we also recommend replacing him as soon as you get a better one.

He’s greatly outshined by Chrome – Glory in his role, not to mention he’s barely durable enough to be considered a decent Tank, let alone a good one.

Conclusion

Punishing: Gray Raven is a fantastic game where the strategic selection of units actually matters. Superior team-building will carry you through the game, not just throwing top-tier units in a team without regard for their synergy.

Do note that the tier placements of each Construct may fluctuate with every in-game update. Granted, we will continue to adjust the rankings every month so you can use this tier list as a solid reference to build your own S-tier team!
