The mode features a weekly reward track that grants rewards based on the number of wins achieved. Honor Duel becomes accessible as soon you reach AFK Stage 16 alongside the Dream Realm feature.

In this article, I provide a guide to understanding the mechanics of Honor Duel and offer insights on how to enhance your performance and strategy to secure victory.

Choose Initial Combo

Once you start Honor Dueling in AFK Journey, you will be given four selections for your initial Artifact & Hero combo. Three of these have different Artifacts that grant you a unique bonus effect. These effects are designed to improve your team’s performance through healing, stat enhancements, and strategic enemy debuffs.

The fourth selection in Honor Duel will give you a random Artifact & Hero combo but comes with a higher Honor Badge.

Artifacts Effects

Artifacts have three passive effects in Honor Duel. The initial one is already activated, while the rest require Artifact XP to unlock: Reaching 6 Artifact XP grants you a new passive effect of your choice, and upon reaching 42 Artifact XP, a distinctive passive effect becomes available.

Artifact XP Sources:

  1. Join a battle to obtain 2 XP.
  2. Ascend any hero once to obtain 3 XP.
  3. Ascend any hero twice to obtain 2 XP.

Artifact & Hero Combo

In the Artifact & Hero combo selection, heroes are already pre-selected as a starter team, which complements the Artifact effect, such as the Pyrocatalyst Artifact that focuses on Mirael.

Another aspect of Artifact’s effects is its dependence on Faction, such as the Obsidian Earrings, whose potency scales with the number of Graveborn heroes present on your team.

With many unique artifacts in the list, there are plenty of ways to create a perfect team in Honor Duel. Before you begin your Honor Duel journey, start by analyzing the Artifact Effect in the selection.

Then, plan for Heroes that synergize with the artifact you will later prioritize acquiring from the Duel Store. The fun part of the Honor Duel is testing various combinations, so don’t hesitate to experiment.

The Duel Store auto-refreshes after each battle in Honor Duel, or you can spend Honor Badges to refresh it manually. You can also lock any item so it doesn’t refresh with other items.

Purchasing Heroes

As mentioned, you can obtain Heroes in the Duel Store by purchasing them. There are three ways to do so in AFK Journey:

AFK JourneyIndividual Hero items are tailored to specific characters upon purchase. Additionally, there’s a possibility that the Duel Store may offer duplicate individual heroes for sale.
AFK JourneyRandom Hero items provide three random Heroes of different Factions and classes for 18 Honor Badges. They are ideal for purchasing at the early stage of the duel.
AFK JourneyFaction Hero items offer three randomly selected Heroes from the designated faction. They are particularly beneficial for constructing faction-specific team builds or when seeking characters from a particular faction.

Hero Ascension

AFk Journey

In Honor Duel, Heroes can ascend to Legendary after obtaining two duplicates and further ascend to Mythic after obtaining four more duplicates. Once ascended, the hero’s Basic Stats will increase, and heroes that achieve Mythic have an Exclusive Skill unlocked.

Hero Equipment

AFk Journey

At the Duel Store, you have the option to purchase Equipment that any hero can use. Each hero can wear one piece of Equipment, and you have the flexibility to remove or replace it as needed. The quality of Equipment improves as you progress through more battles in Honor Duel.

Each piece of equipment in Honor Duel has a unique and valuable effect that will change the tides in battle, so be sure to check and analyze before purchasing. Some effects provide stat buffs, shields, grants additional energy, and more.

Dueling

After queuing for a Duel match, you will be transported into the Arena. In the initial round, you and your opponent are required to position three of your Heroes on the arena board. Once both sides are ready, formations are revealed to each other.

After the Formation is revealed, Round 2 of preparation enables you to strategically select two additional Heroes to counter your opponent’s revealed lineup. It’s like chess where it’s crucial to analyze and anticipate where and how your opponent positions their two heroes. This anticipation allows you to gain a tactical advantage in the upcoming battle.

Hero Placement

As in many RPG games, optimal team placement is key in Honor Duel. Typically, you’d position your Tank at the forefront of the formation to draw aggro and absorb damage. The Flex, potentially a secondary Tank, and DPS units are ideally placed in the middle for balanced offense and defense. Finally, support and ranged units are positioned at the rear of the lineup to provide damage, buffs, and healing while staying out of harm’s way.

Position Planning

In my Honor Duel gameplay, I’ve made strategic adjustments by observing my opponent’s positioning. When the Round 1 Formation Reveal, they have placed their tank at the top right of the arena board, DPS is in the middle, and Support is at the far left.

To counter their setup on Round 2 Formation placement, I’ve positioned my Tank at the center of the arena board to attract their aggro. Then, I placed a DPS unit on the left side, directly facing their Support, to disrupt their support capabilities and apply pressure to their flank.

There are many ways to approach this scenario, but this is the basic yet effective placement.

Victory Conditions
