Imbibitor Lunae is the newest character added to miHoYo’s latest game, Honkai: Star Rail. And while we’re excited to share his best build with you, let’s first dive into a bit of backstory.
Imbibitor Lunae is the alter ego of Dan Heng, one of the first characters you’ll obtain as you progress through Honkai: Star Rail. Essentially, Imbibitor Lunae (IL for short) is Dan Heng in a past life. As players, our role is to help Dan Heng as he struggles to make up for the sins of his past self while revealing more about the Vidyadhara race.
Because Dan Heng • IL is heavily featured in this version (v.1.4) of the game, he has been made available to summon for a limited time. So without further ado, let’s move on to how to build Dan Heng • IL.
Table of Contents
Build Overview

Light Cone | Relic Set | Planar Ornaments |
---|---|---|
Brighter Than The Sun | Wastelander of Banditry Desert | Rutilant Arena |
This build grants Dan Heng • IL the highest possible damage potential. If all relics are rolled with the correct substats, Dan Heng • IL could even rival Seele in terms of damage output.
Ability Priority

Normal Atk => Talent => Ultimate =>Skill
Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae’s abilities all mesh together to make him a top-tier hyper carry. The majority of his damage is dealt with through his normal attacks, so we highly recommend prioritizing it before investing in his other abilities.
Next, you should focus on investing in his Talent, since it increases his damage for every instance of damage he deals during his turn. This ability starts at 5% during the first instance, with the potential to stack six times in total. This ability works on both his normal attacks and his ultimate, so it should be prioritized over your Ultimate and your Skill.

Afterward, you can focus on investing in your Ultimate. Each point invested in Dan Heng • IL’s Ultimate increases the damage it deals. This ability scales with Imbibitor Lunae’s attack, so the higher your Attack and Ultimate levels, the more damage this ability deals.
Invest in Imbibitor Lunae’s Skill last because all it does is increase the critical damage dealt. This implies that you first need to build Critical Rate in order to do Critical Damage, which can be difficult for most players since increasing this stat is largely reliant on RNG mechanics.
Traces

- Aqua Reign – Increases the chance to resist Crowd Control debuffs by 35%.
- Star Veil – At the start of a battle, immediately regenerates 15 Energy.
- Jolt Anew – Increases Critical Damage by 24% when damaging enemy targets with Imaginary Weakness.
At first glance, Imbibitor Lunae’s Traces doesn’t seem to do much in terms of increasing his playstyle options. But upon closer inspection, it becomes apparent that his traces play supplementary roles that allow Dan Heng to perform his hyper-carrying duties uninhibited.
Aqua Reign grants Imbibitor Lunae a layer of defense against enemies that like to apply crowd-controlling debuffs. This makes Dan Heng • IL resistant to things like freezes, mind-control, and other paralyzing status effects. This means you can slot offensive supports to boost his damage further, instead of having to choose a defensive support to cleanse or debuff him.
Star Veil allows Imbibitor Lunae to hit the ground running whenever a battle begins since it grants access to Dan Heng • IL’s ultimate sooner. Having his ultimate sooner also makes it easier to afford enhancing his basic attacks with his skill.
Jolt Anew is a straight damage boost against enemies weak to imaginary. While you would typically bring Imbibitor Lunae to fight against imaginary weak enemies, having a Silver Wolf would make this trace available permanently.
Eidolons

Eidolon Level | Eidolon Name | Eidolon Effect |
---|---|---|
E1 | Tethered to Sky | Increases the stackable Righteous Heart count by 4, and gains 1 extra stack of Righteous Heart for each hit during an attack. |
E2 | Imperium On Cloud Nine | After using his Ultimate, Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae’s action is Advanced Forward by 100% and gains 1 extra Squama Sacrosancta. |
E3 | Clothed in Clouds | Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15. Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 10 |
E4 | Zephyr’s Bliss | The buff effect granted by Outroar lasts until the end of this character’s next turn. |
E5 | Fall is the Pride | Skill +2, up to a maximum of Lv15. Basic ATK Lv +1 up to a maximum of Lv 10. |
E6 | Reign, Returned | After any other ally uses their Ultimate, the Imaginary RES PEN of Dan Heng • Imbibitor Lunae’s next Fulgurant Leap attack increases by 20%. This effect can stack up to 3 time(s). |
As we’ve mentioned before, Eidolons are never a necessity. They’re expensive and not all players can afford to pull for them. If you happen to be someone who has saved enough passes or jades to aim for multiple copies of Imbibitor Lunae, then we recommend stopping at E2 because of how it allows Imbibitor Lunae to deal damage in quick succession.
Best Relics
Wastelander of Banditry Desert

Sub 1 | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, SPD, ATK% | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, SPD, ATK% | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, SPD, ATK% | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, ATK%, SPD |
Wastelander of Banditry Desert grants Imbibitor Lunae the highest damage potential thanks to Imaginary characters’ innate ability to imprison broken enemies. This works even better on Imbibitor Lunae because he deals a large amount of damage as well as toughness damage, making breaking enemies easy and quick.
Players who don’t have good pieces from this set could opt to equip Musketeer of Wild Wheat as an alternative temporary set.
Rutilant Arena

| Link Rope | Planar Sphere |
Main Stat | ATK% | Imaginary Damage % |
Sub Stats | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, SPD, ATK+ | Crit Rate, Crit Damage, SPD, ATK% |
Rutilant Arena increases Crit Chance, and boosts Normal Attack damage if you can build enough Crit Chance on the equipped character. This works in line with Imbibitor Lunae because as a damage dealer, you will naturally want to build critical chance with him. Furthermore, Dan Heng • IL deals most of his damage with his basic attacks, so the secondary bonus from Rutilant Arena works in line with his damage dealer role.
The second best set of Planar Ornaments for Imbibitor Lunae would be the Herta’s Space Sealing Station set, since it boosts Attack by a total of 24% if you can activate both bonuses.
Best Light Cones

Rarity | Light Cone | How to Get |
---|---|---|
✦✦✦✦✦ | (Best in Slot) In The Name of The World | Limited Gacha |
✦✦✦✦✦ | On the Fall of an Aeon | Herta’s Store |
✦✦✦✦ | Under the Blue Sky | Gacha |
✦✦✦ | Collapsing Sky | Gacha |
To nobody’s surprise, Imbibitor Lunae’s best Light Cone is his signature LC, Brighter Than The Sun mainly because of its bonus Energy Regeneration Rate.
In terms of damage though, you’ll be happy to know that the F2P Light Cone, On the Fall of an Aeon comes in at a very close second.
Players who cannot afford to purchase On the Fall of an Aeon LC from Herta’s Store can opt to equip Under the Blue Sky, while players who are just starting out can use the 3-Star LC, Collapsing Sky.
Conclusion

Imbibitor Lunae deals has the potential to deal so much damage, that it’s difficult to argue against pulling for him. Players who already have Seele, Jing Yuan, and Blade could consider skipping him since he plays the same role, but players without a dedicated DPS should most definitely try their luck and summon Imbibitor Lunae.
