Leader of the IPC’s Special Debts Picket Team, Topaz is steadfast yet cunning in managing her duties, accompanied by her trusted Warp Trotter, Numby.

In terms of combat, their gameplay is unique, making them flexible to build. Noting their distinct proficiencies, let’s see how you can adapt Topaz and Numby to your current in-game playing style and team compositions today.

Topaz And Numby Best Build

Introduced back in Honkai: Star Rail‘s 1.4 update, Topaz and Numby are an incredible duo assisting each other in battle, focusing on their exclusive follow-up attacks to demolish foes.

Alongside other 5-star characters added throughout the 1.4 version period (e.g. Jingliu), Topaz and Numby have very detailed kits. Keeping their high follow-up damage potential in mind, this is generally the best build you should consider right now:

During fights, Topaz inflicts the Proof of Debt status on enemies every turn, letting follow-up attacks (such as Numby’s) deal significant damage to them.

When Topaz unlocks one of her primary Traces (Overdraft), her Basic Attacks are also categorized as follow-up attacks, boosting her potency as per their combined kit.

With these sets equipped, Topaz’s Attack, Speed, Critical Rate, and Critical Damage become boosted, making her (and Numby, in retrospect) even more powerful and scary.

Understandably, not everyone has Topaz and Numby’s rare Worrisome, Blissful Light Cone in their inventory. If you don’t, there are other Light Cones that you can pair them with instead, which are:

Light ConeEffect(s)

In the Night light cone in Honkai: Star Rail.

In the Night
Critical Rate increased by 18% – 30%

For every +10 Speed above 100, Basic Attack and Skill damages increased by 6% – 10% (stacks up to 6 times)

For every +10 Speed above 100, Ultimate’s damage increased by 12% – 20% (stacks up to 6 times)

Cruising in the Stellar Seas light cone in Honkai: Star Rail.

Cruising in the Stellar Sea
Critical Rate increased by 8% – 16%

If an enemy’s HP is at or less than 50%, the Critical Rate is increased by 16% – 32% (additional 8% – 16%)

Defeating an enemy increases Attack by 20% – 40% for 2 turns

Swordplay light cone in Honkai: Star Rail.

Swordplay
Upon attacking the same target, each damage dealt increases by 8% – 16% (stacks up to 5 times)

Stacks are removed upon changing targets

Depending on your Topaz and Numby’s current build, each of them can serve you well, primarily adding bonuses to Attack and Critical Rate. That being said, you NEED to have her Trace, Overdraft, ready as soon as possible to enjoy the most benefit.

Jumping onto Relics, some of these will require a bit of a grind to get. Unlike re-rolling characters, you’ll need to be lucky to get Relics with the most desired Main Stats, besides other useful Substats too.

Still, Topaz and Numby can be geared in multiple different ways. If you don’t have the Musketeer of Wild Wheat set or Inert Salsotto set in hand (or you’re not interested in either of them), then these few alternatives should also do the trick, among many others:

Speed Build

Cavern Relics SetEffect(s)

Messenger Traversing Hackerspace cavern relic set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

[2-piece] Messenger Traversing Hackerspace
[2-piece] Speed increased by 6%

Firesmith of Lava-Forging cavern relic set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

[2-piece] Firesmith of Lava-Forging
[2-piece] Fire Damage increased by 10%

The 2-piece combinations of these sets get your Topaz slightly faster in the turn cycle, letting her set up her Proof of Debt debuffs onto enemies quicker (supplementing other party members’ follow-up attacks).

Planar Ornaments SetEffect(s)

Space Sealing Station planar ornaments set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

Space Sealing Station
[2-piece] Attack increased by 12%

If Speed is at 120 or higher, Attack is increased by 24% (additional 12%)

By focusing your Topaz and Numby’s build on Speed, the Space Sealing Station set improves all of Topaz’s damages to enemies from the higher Speed value.

Fire-Damage Build

Relic SetEffect(s)

[4-piece] Firesmith of Lava-Forging
[2-piece] Fire Damage increased by 10%

[4-piece] Skill damage increased by 12%

After using an Ultimate, Fire Damage is increased by an additional 12% for the next attack

The complete Firesmith of Lava-Forging set lets Topaz’s attacks break specific enemies’ toughness meter more effectively.

Planar Ornaments SetEffect(s)

Space Sealing Station
[2-piece] Attack increased by 12%

If Speed is at 120 or higher, Attack is increased by 24% (additional 12%)

Getting the extra Attack bonuses yields impressive results when combined with the Firesmith set, so long as Topaz’s other gear stats can achieve at least 120 Speed cumulatively.

Support Build

By pairing these sets, Topaz can frequently choose which enemy to inflict her Proof of Debt on for others to exploit, all while boosting Numby’s damage to them at the same time.

Planar Ornaments SetEffect(s)

Rutilant Arena
[2-piece] Critical Rate increases by 8%

If the Critical Rate is at 70% or higher, Basic Attack and Skill damages are increased by 20%

With Rutilant Arena, you can set up Proof of Debt while inflicting more harm to the targets if you can spec your Topaz’s build towards Critical Rate.

Topaz And Numby Best Team

Amongst all the characters in Honkai: Star Rail, Topaz and Numby are considered to be among the most versatile to slot into a team.

They can synergize with almost anyone provided that you build them either as a support (prioritizing Numby’s attacks via Topaz’s Ultimate) or supplementing teammate’s follow-up damages.

Still, a few team comps do come to mind:

Overview

Topaz (and Numby) is a specialist in follow-up attacks, primarily due to her exclusive Proof of Debt debuff. Because of this, she normally needs to attack first to target a specific enemy for termination.

Her debuff can still appear randomly if you don’t use her Skill, but prioritizing your targets ensures quicker eliminations. Here’s a quick summary of all her abilities in-game:

Skills

AbilitiesEffect(s)

Basic Attack

Deficit…
Deals Fire Damage equivalent to 50% – 110% of Topaz’s Attack

Toughness Damage: 30
Energy Generated: 20

Skill

Difficulty Paying?
Applies Proof of Debt to a target enemy, increasing damage received by 12% – 55%

Proof of Debt is automatically applied to a random enemy each turn, if not specified

Numby deals Fire Damage equal to 75% – 165% of Topaz’s Attack (follow-up attack)

Toughness Damage: 60
Energy Generated: 30

Talent

Trotter Market!?
Numby is summoned at the start of a battle

Numby deals Fire Damage equal to 75% – 165% of Topaz’s Attack (follow-up attack)

Allies’ follow-up attacks on enemies inflicted with Proof of Debt Advanced-Forwards Numby’s turn by 50%

Toughness Damage: 60

Ultimate

Turn A Profit!
Numby enters Windfall Bonanza! mode (ends after Numby attacks twice)

Windfall Bonanza!:

– Damage multiplier increased by 75% – 165%

– Critical Damage increased by 12.5% – 27.5%

– Any attack by allies (Basic Attack, Skill, Ultimate) onto enemies with Proof of Debt gives Numby Advanced Forward by 50%

Energy Cost: 130
Energy Generated: 5

Clearly, Topaz’s kit immensely weakens chosen foes to concentrated follow-up attacks. Using this as a base, you can come up with multiple team combos and gearing opportunities!

Traces

TraceEffect(s)

Overdraft
Topaz’s Basic Attacks are considered follow-up attacks

Financial Turmoil
Topaz and Numby deal 15% more damage to enemies weak to Fire

Stonks Market
Topaz regenerates 10 Energy after Numby attacks while in Windfall Bonanza! mode

Overall, Topaz’s passive Traces increases her Critical Rate, Fire Damage, and Max HP.

While nifty (depending on your preferred build), the three listed above are the most crucial for her because they change some of her ability’s mechanics, making her even more formidable!

Eidolons

EidolonEffect(s)

Level 1

Future Market
When enemies with Proof of Debt receive follow-up damage, they gain the Debtor state.

Debtor:

– Critical Damage of follow-up attacks on the target is increased by 25% (stacks 2 times)

Level 2

Bona Fide Acquisition
Topaz regenerates 5 Energy after Numby makes an action/ attacks

Level 3

Seize The Big And Free The Small
+2 Skill levels (maximum +15 Skill)

+1 Basic Attack level (maximum +10 Basic Attack)

Level 4

Agile Operation
Upon Numby’s turn, Topaz is Advanced Forwarded by 20%

Level 5

+2 Talent levels (maximum +15 Talent)

Level 6

Incentive Mechanism
During Windfall Bonanza!:

– Numby’s maximum attack is increased to 3 times

– Numby’s attacks receive a 10% increased Fire Resistance Penetration bonus

Topaz’s Eidolons are exquisite add-ons to her encompassing kit. Nevertheless, getting them all can be quite the journey (and luck-based), so it’s best to build her via gear sets and team comps instead.
